PostSubject: My apples are mating so a few Q's...   Fri Feb 13, 2009 4:34 am

Hi peeps, my apple snails have seemingly been locked in a love embrace (see my thread for pics in the photo section) for a couple of days and have now separated.

The snails are in my 180L goldie tank and I am just wondering what I need to do as and when I see eggs have been laid as I really don't want the goldies to eat the snails.

I have a nano tank that has miniscule chili rasboras and pygmy cories in it, so am wondering if/when I could keep them in there so they don't get eaten? I know the tank is good for snails as my ramshorns have bred in there like mad Very Happy

All advice gratefully received Very Happy

Hi JennyBugs! Smile

Yes you could use your Nano tank to raise some babies, but bear in mind there can be up to 300 eggs in a large egg case, so you may only be able to raise a handful in a nano tank - and this really depends on the filtration and frequency of water changes. Once they are over a cm or two in size you could try introducing them back to the Goldfish tank, but this really depends on the size of the goldfish... cheers Shocked
When you have spotted the egg case you are best leaving it where it is. Eggs take 10-14 days to hatch depending on humidity and temperature. If you can set up a breeding trap underneath the eggs, you can be sure of catching them safely before the goldfish can eat them. Hope this helps. albino
